So what exactly is a palatal Expander? It’s a very common orthodontic appliance that is often used in young children. It’s a way to perform Arch expansion which is a common way to get rid of crossbites and crowding in children that are still growing. Use of this expander requires that the growth plate in the roof of the mouth is not yet fused, which commonly occurs between 13 and 16 years old.
